Day 2

The following is a picture of Shelbi's attempt to put Elliott's handprints in paint on a wooden plaque. I would describe the results as falling somewhere between disastrous and train-wreck.

Unfortunately, the picture does not show his tiny fists (which proved impossible to unpry) covered in paint and zero paint on the original target.

Day 2 with Elliott proved to be another rousing success in that he is still alive. Highlights include:

1. Coming up just short of running a mile this morning. (I always thought that, no matter how much I let myself go in life I would always be able to roll out of bed and run at least a mile until I was in my 60's. I came up more than 30 years short. The good news is that I have complete confidence that I will be able to finish my mile tomorrow. My mistake on Monday was starting off at about a 5:30 mile pace in an apparent attempt to beat my 12-year-old self's time.)

2. Transporting a mess from one room to another. (A specialty of mine in every dwelling I've ever lived in. The front door is always the center of this small universe and the further away from it you get, the further things disolve into chaos. I'm pretty sure I have actually created a small black hole in somewhere in our guest bedroom.)

3. Reading two entire columns on-line WHILE Elliott was awake. Normally if I am holding him for that long a period of time he forces me to stand up and walk around with him as he practices headbutting me in the eye socket.

The Lowlight:
For the first time, Elliott is seeking out the television. Today in his swing which is placed parallel to the TV, he managed to turn his head like an owl doing a Linda Blair impression and, before I knew it, Elliott was thoroughly enjoying Around the Horn more than I was.

Keep running Matt! We need you on the backline, and Elliott needs to see you on the field or he will grow up with a skewed view of his father.
